More on Serums

In the last blog serum basics were covered. Serums are intensive treatment products that are applied, in small amounts, after cleansing and toning, to the entire face and neck twice daily. Serums should be followed with the appropriate sunscreen moisturizer in the daytime and nourishing moisturizer in the evening. Serums can also be applied before a mask.

In addition to serums that are just darn good for your skin there are specialty serums. That is, serums that treat specific issues such as hyperpigmentation (discoloration), antioxidant protection, skin strengthening, sun damage, fine lines, redness and acne.

By now, most of us know that vitamin C, when taken internally is a strong antioxidant and may help in the prevention of colds. Vitamin C applied topically in serum form offers antioxidant protection to the skin while helping to repair visible sun damage, minimize fine lines and strengthen the skin.

What may be generally unknown is that vitamin C is extremely unstable meaning that it can quickly lose its effectiveness especially when exposed to the air. Because stabilizing vitamin C is an expensive and scientifically challenging process not all vitamin C products are created equal.

The vitamin C topicals that I carry are all stabilized. If these products are used by their expiration date they will be as effective from first drop to last.

pHaze 15+ C-Quench® Antioxidant Serum, a cosmetically elegant 15 % L-ascorbic acid serum is suitable for all skin types. It helps the skin attract and hold moisture and provides a supportive feel to lax skin, smoothing fine lines, minimizing pores while plumping and strengthening the skin.

Adding vitamin E with the C to the skin adds more antioxidants in addition to brightening the skin.

pHaze 16 C-Strength 15% with 5% Vitamin E, a stable and effective topical for minimizing fine lines while strengthening and brightening the skin.

If pigmentation is an issue then pHaze 13 Pigment Gel® is your serum. This is a penetrating “triple-action” of hydroquinone and kojic and azelaic acids, plus lactic and citric acids that help to exfoliate, lighten and inhibit hyperpigmentation (skin discoloration) and age spots.

Is redness an issue for you? pHaze 42 Anti-Redness Serum works wonders at minimizing redness and irritation for those with sensitive skin, rosacea, sun damaged skin, or persistent flushing. It reduces irritation and improves micro circulation, leaving the skin calm and even. This glides smoothly onto the skin, without being oily so if you're oily with sensitive skin this could be a great serum for you.

Tired of heavy feeling and irritating acne treatments? Enter pHaze 35 Acne Gel, a gentle and effective 2% salicylic acid and 5% azelaic acid acne spot treatment that clears existing acne blemishes while reducing oil production, and the occurrence of future breakouts.

pHaze 33 Acne Cream is not exactly a serum. However, it is a light cream that does the job. This active 5% benzoyl peroxide acne spot treatment effectively delivers oxygen into the pores to help kill the bacteria responsible for acne breakouts. L-lactic acid and tea tree oil also work to inhibit breakouts while keeping the skin hydrated and smooth.
