Honey Facial Masque

Today I had a fantastic time on BlogTalkRadio.com with Nancy T. We discussed recipes for skin care. So here's another recipe:

HONEY FACIAL MASQUE

1/2 cup hot water
10 tablespoons quick oats
1/2 apple, cored - not peeled
2 heaped tablespoons plain yogurt
2 tablespoons honey
1 egg white

Instructions
Combine hot water and oats and stir until smooth.  Let stand for about 5 minutes or until mixture is paste like.  Put remaining ingredients in a blender and mix for 45 seconds.  Add oatmeal mixture and blend for another 20 seconds.  Apply masque evenly to entire face and let sit for about 15 minutes, or until skin is tight.  Rinse thoroughly with warm water

Makes 1 application.

Treatments Good Enough to Eat!!

Today, on the radio show, we talked about going green with skin care. That's going green as in avocado and cucumber! The promise was made that a few of the recipes would be blogged - so here ya go.

The Devine Avocado

Avocadoes are wonderful to eat and to set the skin aglow. They provide 25 essential nutrients, as well as being rich in oil that is compatible with the skin and healthy fat.

For a homemade avocado mask you'll need:

1 frothed egg white

1/2 cup chopped cucumber blend with the avocado

1/2 an avocado mashed or blended

This mixture should be the thickness of a clay mask. Apply to clean skin. Let sit for 20 minutes, and then wash with warm water. This is a wonderful natural remedy for dry skin. It’s also great to use on the body.

The Less Complicated Approach

Peel the avocado - use the meat for guacamole and rub the inside of the peel on the face in a circular upward motion. The oil will moisturize. Leave on 15 - 20 minutes. Rinse.

The Puffy Eye Solution

Slice a peeled avocado half into thin crescents. Lie down with a few slices under each eye and rest for 20 - 25 minutes. Rinse.

Healthy Spinach Frittata with Essential Oils

In my spring newsletter, Aromatic Remedies, I gave a recipe using essential oils for a fabulously flavorful spinach frittata. Its printed below for those who didn't see it.

Healthy Spinach Frittata*

2 Tbsp olive oil

1 drop basil essential oil

1 drop oregano essential oil

1 bunch green onions, chopped

2 cloves garlic, chopped

10-oz bag spinach

6 eggs

salt

pepper

1/3 c plain yogurt

4 oz feta cheese, crumbled

In a sauté pan, mix olive, basil, and oregano oils. Add green onions and garlic, and sauté on medium heat until tender. Add spinach in small bunches until wilted and heated through. Set aside. Whisk eggs, salt, and pepper together. Add yogurt to egg mixture and mix thoroughly. Drain spinach and place in a nonstick cake or pie pan. Pour egg mixture over the spinach and gently mix. Add feta and bake in a 350o F oven for 20 minutes, or until firm. Let cool slightly, slice and serve with fresh cut tomatoes. Makes 8 slices.

Why use herbal essential oils? The essential oil carries the pure chemical properties of the plant - you're getting the pure essentials. And, if kept properly, essential oils do not deteriorate like processed, dehydrated or even fresh herbs.

Note: Recipe can be made in an ovenproof frying pan.
