Skin Care Tips

. . . . . . . more to follow

Don't wear tight clothes. Things tight around the body (including belts) can cause irritation and don’t allow skin to breathe. Keep clothing clean including scarves and hats.
Remove makeup. This is an always. Over the day makeup collects oils and bacteria. The skin repairs itself at night.
Throw away makeup older than 6-months from date of purchase. Sorry, it's a perishable product that does degrade over time.

Keep hair clean. Minimize getting hair products on the skin which can cause irritation and inflammation.

Protect by using a good sunscreen. Zinc oxide, the physical block ingredient in quality sunscreens, is used as part of acne treatments. It' healing & non-inflammatory

Protect from the sun. Over exposure to sun can cause the body to produce extra sebum, which may worsen acne and inflammation.

Skin Care Tips

Wash with mild cleanser & warm water no more than 2x/day. Gently massage skin with circular motions. Don’t scrub. Over-washing can cause irritation, inflammation and dehydration.

Don't squeeze. Pimples are caused by sebum, dirt and bacteria in a pore festering. Squeezing pimples can push infected material further into the skin, leading to more swelling and redness, and even scarring. Treat pimple with topical products from a reputable Esthetician and get regular facials with extractions from an Esthetician.

Don't touch with your hands or objects like telephones (do you know where your cellphone has been?). Touching the face can spread bacteria and other organisms causing inflammation and irritation.

Clean glasses (including sunglasses) often to keep oil and bacteria from clogging and infecting pores. This is especially true for those of you who put your sunglasses in your hair.

Raising Brows

As we age the brows can droop. There are a couple of safe, non-drug, inexpensive, non-invasive options to raise the brow. Proper shaping, microcurrent, a little brightening powder at the peak of the arch.

  • Proper shaping includes waxing, tweezing, trimming, or threading by a trained professional. Waxing and threading shape the brow by removing obvious hairs but also that fuzz which shows up under eye makeup. Tweezing allows for the "fine work" of shaping. Fine trimming can get the brow to lay the way they should.
  • Microcurrent can tighten the skin, build collagen and lift those brows. Eyes only microcurrent, in the hands of a trained expert, can work wonders inexpensively with results being progressive and cumulative.
  • Line just beneath the brow with brightening powder.
  • Use brow powder instead of pencil which tends to look a little harsh.

Why Use Mineral Makeup?

Mineral makeup is gentle and offers superior physical block sun protection. Mineral makeup comes in three forms.

  1. Loose powder gives excellent coverage and more can be added to spots that need concealing. It can be drying.
  2. Pressed powder has the same benefits as loose and is a little less messy.
  3. Liquid gives excellent coverage but is a little more difficult to spot treat. It is usually not drying.

The mineral of mineral makeup are microfine titanium dioxide and microfine zinc oxide. These are the earth’s non-chemical sun screens (the physical blocks that I have been talking about) protecting from UVA and UVB rays. Zinc oxide adds the benefits of being anti microbial and anti inflammatory helping to calm irritated skin. Titanium dioxide is a sterilizer and accounts for the white pigment in many products.

Mineral makeup is not easily contaminated because it is not organic (from plants) and does not support bacteria well. Therefore, you can use it until it’s gone unlike chemical or organic based makeup with shelf lives. It is great for those with allergies, eczema, irritated skin, or rosacea.

Make sure that the mineral makeup that you choose:

  • Has color made of pure iron oxides, not artificial dyes.
  • Has no scent added.
  • Has a large percentage of titanium dioxide and zinc oxide.
